Hi everyone,
I’m a local resident (and your friendly CVRA webmaster) and recently during a run on the Railpath I was musing that it would be a fantastic place to hold a fun run, with a dual purpose of bringing the community together in this great space and raising money for something good in our community.
I have put together a business plan for a Railpath fun run/walk in Spring 2012 and I’m currently reaching out to community leaders for support. As a charitable partner, I reached out to The Stop since they bring so much to our community and Toronto-wide. So far, Ana Bailao, Jonah Schein and Andrew Cash have committed to support this, and I will be having further discussions in the coming weeks. 11 Division has said they would also potentially to be able to provide some support.
I would like to pull together a steering committee to organize the event and I am looking for local community members who are interested in participating. Alternately, if you have some other way you would like to contribute as we start to plan (such as a local business, etc.) that is also helpful. I am happy to share the business plan if anyone is interested.
Your support is appreciated. More to come as we start to make this a reality!
Please comment below if you are interested in more information, seeing the business plan and/or joining the steering committee. I will reach out to you directly. Thank you!
Shazia

Letter from Karuna Sagara, passed on by Rev. Karen Williams, Community Minister (Davenport Perth Community Ministry)
Hi Everyone,
As you know, there is a provincial election coming up this October 6th. Davenport Perth Community Ministry, in partnership with Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre, has been facilitating a group we have called, “Voting
Matters” and our mission has been to encourage all people in the riding to participate in the electoral process — from an informed perspective about issues that matter to the residents of this riding including: housing, income security, child care, care for the environment, neighbourhood safety, services for newcomers, employment with a living wage and benefits, programs for seniors, health services, and supports to families and children.
We have had a group of committed voter animators, and this year we are hoping to strengthen our existing group with newcomers across the political riding. If you live in the riding, or are a member of an organization within the riding, please pass the message on to all your friends, co-workers, and neighbours — that we will be having a planning meeting on Wednesday, August 10th from 6-9 pm at Davenport Perth Neighbourhood Centre, 1900 Davenport Rd. We are hoping to plan many activities in the coming months that will engage the residents of this riding from north to south and east to west.
PLEASE JOIN US!
See you there,
Karuna Sagara
